It is in fact a little bit creamy/buttery white. Do I paint my closet doors that colour too? Or should I paint my closet the same colour as my walls? The wall colour is yet to be determined neither is my new bedding (getting a whole new bed) but I love the combo of pink & brown (strawberries & chocolate). My furniture is med brown stained maple and the room gets very little light as it is a converted garage -- long & narrow with 2 small garage style windows. Any help would be much appreciated - I'm very indecisive.
I just had my bedroom redone. This is what I did....painted the walls a light sage green (flat paint). Painted the ceiling and all the doors (including the closet) an off white. Ceiling flat paint, doors semi-gloss. Then I got some crown moulding, its very inexpensive, painted it high gloss pure white and the room looks wonderful.
I recently purchased a new bedroom set (an antique black color) and am trying to redo the room before it arrives. I'm hoping to paint the walls a buttery yellow color, and I have oak colored hardwood floors. My question is what color would you recommend painting all of the trim (fairly wide trim along the floors, around all windows, doors, and the hope is for crown molding eventually)?? We usually like the starkness of white trim, however it seems as if it would be rather jarring against the black furniture. Any assistance you can offer would be appreciated.

I'm 13 years old and I am going to remodel my bedroom in the near furture. I'm really into that Victorian style furniture with the old antique accessories (like things you would find in your grandmother's house). I like the white furniture, not the dark brown. I'm looking for a full bedroom set (bed frame, dresser with mirror, nightstand, and a place for my tv). My budget is about $1500. I live in Anaheim Hills, California. Does anybody have any advice on shopping for antiques or suggestions on possible furniture stores or antique stores that arent too expensive?
$1500 isn't a big budget so you should have help checking out flea markets for pieces that need refinishing. Antique stores are very expensive. You can get the look you want without spending a fortune with the right help. It has a lot to do with fabrics so making those right choices will complete the look. But fabrics can be purchased at fabric stores and you can have drapes made and seats and chairs recovered to your look for a minimal price.
We are looking for a certain style of bedroom furniture. Described as follows: The bed must be antique white colored on the bottom- but the top canopy part of the bed must still be a wood finish- the antique white cottage effect is what is desired and the bed is essential in this- she wants exactly that- old cottage style antique white poster/canopy bed- but the top has to be that solid top and its gotta be the wood finish- what is that called???? where can we buy it??? thank you
yeah- weve tried ebay- the problem is we dont know what its called... my mom is the one who wants the furniture- shes not buying a bed (literally) until she finds this one... its crazy- but yeah - i need to know what its called - then the decorator can find it- i may rephrase and repost this question

A longtime home economics teacher who retired after 30 years in the Henderson, Ky., school system, Marietta doesn't quite consider herself an artist. But she definitely had an artist's eye in decorating the home she shares with husband Leo.
By using color inside and out, Marietta was able to give the home ageless charm while working on a budget.
"Color is very important to me," said Marietta. "And the repetition of color is much more interesting than a plethora of different colors."
The upstairs master bedroom is a prime example of how she used repeating color to create a warm and sophisticated space. Cobalt blue and yellow bedding were the inspiration for the room, which includes detailed matching cornices and drapes.
She found the bedding and fabric first, then designed the room around it. That, she said, is the most cost-effective and easiest way to create a dramatic look.
"You can find bedding in the colors you want at discount stores, then build the room around them," Marietta said. The trick is not necessarily to have the most expensive linens but to coordinate the room with chosen fabrics to create a cohesive and unifying look, much as she did with blues and yellows in the master bedroom.
