Mahogany Bedroom Furniture

I want to buy mahogany bedroom furniture but not sure if they are the best kind of furniture to go with.
do you have any experience with mahogany bedroom furniture and did you purchase it online?

Yeah mahogany is nice to have and all but you also have to clean it on time.

Hi, I don't know much about furniture other than saying something is cute or not, but I was told by a friend that I should stick with solid wood construction and avoid veneers, but I noticed that there are a lot of different varieties of wood used in different furniture sets. So far I've seen pine, maple, oak, alder, cherry, and mahogany. What's the best? What makes it best? What makes other wood cheap or poor quality? And is there a site online that can help to better explain why I want a better quality wood for my furniture and what in fact makes it better? I'm really hoping someone can help me out because I want to buy a nice quality bedroom set and I don't want to pay top dollar for junky furniture either. Thanks in advance.

The wood species is up to you, what do you like? If you choose a posted set, the posts should be solid wood. Any panels you choose can be veneered or solid. Veneer panels are much better than they used to be. The glues used are better and manufacturers are willing to stand behind them. Solid wood panels are beautiful but may require multiple glue joints to achieve adequate width. This can create inconsistent grain patterns. If you see something that looks good at the store, but when you get it it doesn't look so great, go back to the store and demand the display. They tend to show the best.

Hi, I'm thinking about getting an unfinished dresser so I can match an old bed I already have, but I wanted to know if the particular dresser I'm looking at is made out of good wood or just something junky. It's made out of white spruce. Would you say that's an okay wood? I know cherry and mahogany are really good woods for furniture, but aside from that, I'm clueless. Thanks.

White spruce is not the best furniture wood but can be acceptable. The details of contruction for the dresser are probably a better indicator of how well the piece of furniture will last.

Are the drawers made with dovetail joints? That is a sign of good construction.

Are the sides, front and back put together with mortise and tendon joints? Another sign of good construction.

Are the draw sides and bottoms made from solid wood or are they particle board, MDF or other similar material? They should be solid wood or at least good quality plywood.

I have an antique bedroom suite that dates back to the turn of the century. It has beautiful carved roses. But I wonder if it is mahogany or rosewood?

Mahogany is is a dark red color sometimes, however, it is dark brown.

Rosewood is named for the rose scent that releases when it is cut. Occasionally, I find that people confuse rosewood and mahogany.

Both woods can be red in color. However, when you look closely at rosewood, you’ll see fine black (and sometimes white) rings that are not present in mahogany. Another trick to tell if an item is rosewood is to pick it up. Rosewood is a very heavy wood, heavier than mahogany.

In the 17th century China, rosewood was a popular choice for fine furniture makers. As well, in 19th century Europe, it was used to construct better-quality furniture for fine homes.

We are using a red mahogany stain.

First thing after staining is to use sanding sealer not thick just cover all areas lightly sand with 120 grit with the wood grain no cross sanding clean dust with cheese cloths they are cheap from paint stores. One coat of Spar-Varish see most painter use (reg) poly-varnish it dont hold up Spar Vanish will and it applys the same way no thicker or no less its a marine varnish i use it to re-finish exteroir doors and furniture anthing i use poly-varnish on i use this.*
