Kitchen Dining Furniture

Open concept kitchen, table and chairs and such are now a maple finish, new kitchen is a mahogany finish. Dining area runs right into kitchen. Should I have matching furniture?

No, just find other ways to tie the rooms together, for example, if you have stainless steel appliances, get a stainless steel vase or bowl for the table. If you have red placemats, get red accents for the kitchen. Having wood that is different finishes, but still looks good together shows that you put some thought and creativity into the room. It won't look like you walked into the showroom and cashed in on the maple finish close-out sale.

I love that look! I would add charcoal/coffee coloured accessories. This will balance out the white and dark. Don't forget to add bold colour and patterns to add some fun. I love the damask print which often comes in black and white. Maybe add some silver, glass and crystal accessories like a chandelier. Enjoy, it's very manhattan/parisian chic and quite glamorous!

my new apartment has the living room, dinning room, and kitchen all rolled into one room. i need it to look good and still be functional. i dont like alot of furniture and i have a 4 year old so it has to be family friendly.

pick one theme. make them blend into each section. use clild safe things. like corner softners. or if you want different themes find one common interest that they all have and use that to tie them in together.

I'm just about pulling my hair out with this open plan room. Kitchen cupboards are light coloured wood grain, black bench tops, ivory tiles and walls and flooring in whole area is terracotta tiles. Dark Balinese furniture with a chocolate brown lounge suite. Greyish/blue rug with terracotta border under dining table. I'd like to keep the Bali feel but introduce colour to liven things up. Any suggestions appreciated.

Dulux do a paint called Sunbaked Terracotta (the colour is dried earth). I would do that as your base colour and pick out a feature wall with a darker colour. White ceiling of course. Use MATT not SILK paint.

Its better to start mild than strong and you can always paint over.

I'm moving into my first home (I had been taking care of my mother in her house for many years). So finally I'm buying my first house. I'm very excited but not so much in love with the kitchen cabinets and can in no way remodel the kitchen for at least 3 or 4 years at the earliest. My house is the no frills version so it pales in comparison to the model but it looks like the cabinets are the same. All of my kitchen and dining room furniture is medium oak and I do love its quality and durability. I hate the whole kitschy looking farmhouse white and oak thing that was popular in the 90s. It was fun back then but I don't want it now. What can I do? I was hoping to put crown moulding over the cabinets but I see that the cabinets on the outside wall go right to the ceiling. Any ideas on how to tackle this on a budget?

Looks like a cute place! I think you could do a lot worse with the cabinets. I'd try looking at Lowes.com and bhg.com to get some ideas on basic kitchen remodeling. Painting the cabinet doors and adding new hardware is a good way to give it a personal touch. Good luck.
