The piano was a chestnut baby grand with gently curved Queen Anne legs, and it stood in the middle of the spacious living room. Sunlight glinted through the tall windows. She had been playing it for an hour as the moving men walked through the house, gathering furniture and the detritus of her life for the moving van. She concentrated as she made mistakes, and began the line again. She wasn’t a piano player who played for anyone but herself, and today she was continuing to do that, trying not to look at the men as they went about their work. She was playing "Hit songs of the 50’s" now, her decade, but she didn’t know it then. Then she was a fresh faced high school student, ready to take on the world. Now she was that no more.
Upstairs her son queried his father, "what’s mom doing?" He replied sadly, "she’s playing the piano." He went on, "she’s been playing it all morning."
She switched to another book and began playing old Civil War hymns and Irish love songs that she liked. As she made mistakes, she went back and did the line again and again until she got it right.

Great house….I wanted to point out the yellow floor lamp in the family room. My mom has this same floor lamp but in a bone or ivory base color and the toile design is a dark brown or black. She bought it new from Ethan Allen or some where in 1970 or ‘71. I should take a pic of it and email it to you. (just thought you may find this a fun fact) Thanks.
Hi again, it’s Liane. I wanted to answer the last few questions.
Silvia- the living room floors are made from wide white pine, probably cut locally back in the 1800s. We think the other floors in the house are southern yellow pine.
Jules- The rosemary does get a bit scraggily in the winter but perks right up once it’s outside again. Rosemary is fairly hardy so leave it outside as long as possible until a real frost hits. I haven’t had issues with bugs on it inside yet. I know that can be a problem with something that has been outdoors. I also don’t overwater. I feel the leaves and when they start to feel a bit dry I water. Once a week maybe.
