I like casual but elegant furniture. I'm trying to decide if I'll like this set. The people at the store think it might be too formal for my taste, but I think it looks kind of country. Thanks for any advice.
It's sort of a "queen anne meets the country cousin" style. This is actually a poorly conceived furniture design; it looks like it's trying awfully hard to be a formal "Queen Anne" set (the turning of the legs, the dark mahogany etc), but those horizontal slats on the chairs are pure country.
This is not casual in the least ~ it's the chair backs that are giving you the illusion of being a country set.
it's a small room, maybe 12 x 12, with a French door (to a little sunroom), the stairs to the second floor, and 2 entrances. Ten feet may seem like no big deal, but they're a challenge. How can I decorate the top 2/3 of this room? It's bright yellow with a crystal chandelier......at the entranceway, there are 2 round columns also 10 feet high, any suggestions to warm things up? I have hardwood floors...thanks!
I've seen high ceilings taken care of in two ways.
1) A wide wallpaper border that is not too intrusive, or
2) Buy some nice moulding to place around the perimeter of the entire room near the ceiling. Drop it 1 1/2 - 2 ft. and paint the moulding and the portion above it the same color as the ceiling.
The second would be my choice for you since the room, with columns and chandelier sounds rather formal for a sun room.

When a certain style speaks to you, sometimes you just have to respond.
That was the case for Scott Mostrom and his wife Robyn Swanson, who chose to run with an outdoorsy décor theme that brings to mind a cottage or cabin for their Commerce Township home.
It all began back in Minnesota, where Mostrom is from and the couple once lived. There, they began to embark on the lodge look, one room at a time. "It started with a guest bedroom," Mostrom says. They liked the look so much that they decided to keep going. In recent years, the couple fell for the extensive rustic furniture selection at Fenton Home Furnishings. "That's when it really took off," Mostrom says.
Today, their entire home has the lodge look, but it is far from predictable. Mostrom not only has a knack for tracking down truly unique pieces, but for mixing them with antiques and vintage finds, too. A Michigan Fishing and Hunting Guide poster sets the tone at the home's entryway, while more than 100 laminated copies of L.L. Bean catalog covers dating from 1925 to 1974 fill a wall in the hallway.

You can find round tops, unfinished mdf or plywood, from most big hardware stores and places like Pier 1 generally have pre-cut tempered glass. A good solid base can be challenging; large ceramic planter filled with rocks, heavy pedestal from one of those fake plant stores (Hobby Lobby had some), or cardboard tube used for cement pouring. Making something simple from wood, mdf, or galvanized metal works too. Paint the thing, cover it with wallpaper, or mosaic tile.
If you scour antique and vintage stores you can find some great drop leaf round tables.
