Threesome of Living Room Tables - by senomozi | LumberJocks.com ...

Solid red oak and walnut living room tables built for the same home as the dining table also described in My Projects. All tables feature leg assemblies where the horizontal pieces form part of the top and are connected to the vertical pieces using bridal joints. Finish is Minwax natural oil stain (#209) to highlight the grain followed by sprayed waterborne lacquer. Result on walnut is not as nice as the polymerized tung oil I had used on the dining table.

The end table features a deep drawer that fits into notches made in the top section of the front legs. Version 1 of the design actually had the drawer fit between full size legs (3” wide faces), which did not make for a very pleasing look. By notching the legs the drawer could be widened by 3”. The drawer sides are connected to the front with a rabbet joint reinforced with a couple of pan head solid brass screws recessed 1/32” into the wood then filed flush to the surface of the side to produce fake brass plugs. This is a design detail I saw on a piece of Greene & Greene furniture. 18” wide x 24” deep x 22” high.
