We recently bought a home with "unique" taste. I am looking to renovate a bedroom that will become our home office. It used to be an 8 year old's bedroom with aqua blue walls and a dolphin border.
I am looking for a traditional/contemporary look- crown molding, big dark brown leather chair with ottoman, bookcase, and dark colored desk. There will be a lot of dark wood and dark leather in the room and I would like to pull up the carpet and lay very dark, thick wood flooring. Other than a tasteful colorful rug, what recommendations would you make for wall color, trim/crown molding finish and accent pieces?
I think that you should paint the room like a light brown or tan because this color goes really well with dark brown colors.

I NEED A HOME OFFICE NOW!!!!!! INCLUDING THE CHAIR BUDGET IS $500.00
There are stores that sell used business furniture--you can look in your local yellow pages.
Also, if it's a home office, does it have to be beautiful right this minute? [Even if you have customers coming in, they might understand if your brand new, depending on your type of business)...
BECAUSE HERE'S WHAT WE DID: we set up a 'temporary' desk in my new home office consisting of an old oak door as a desktop, an old 2-drawer file on one side and an inexpensive adjustable height Black and Decker X device on the other to hold it up. And you know something? Once I put all my Gizmos on that Big Ol' Oak Door Desk-the computer, printer, speakers,etc--it doesn't look half bad--in fact, it looks kind of cool contempo. And the sprawling, busy desk makes me look like a 'hard worker' instead of like some prim, proper person sitting at a skinny, undersized desk with nowhere to put a stack of papers!
....and here's the BIG SURPRISE--
I LIKE the spaciousness of my door top desk SO MUCH that, even though I've been looking at high-end office furniture to replace it, I just can't find anything as spacious or comfy as my Big Oak Door Desk!
ANOTHER OPTION--consider looking through Craig's list on line and in the 'for sale' section of your newspaper--AND on sites like 'STUFF FOR FREE' (I can't remember the .com name--but my friend actually got a piano, organ, and 2 sofas through them).
The thing is that $500 is still a fair amount of money--do you REALLY want to buy low end Office Max furniture, only to have to replace it later? Offices don't have to 'look' expensive--but you'd be stuck with drawers that would warp and stick and break very quickly.

I am building a home office. Most L-shaped corner desks I've seen have drawers on one side and a storage compartment on the other. Though stores show storage area used for CPU, they are not vented/engineered for that. I can vent using a 2 inch hole saw and a 120 V AC 3 inch CPU/Hobby fan mounted onto back of desk - without destroying integrity of structural soundness according to the furniture Co's engineer.
Is 65 CFM too much? Or is 24 CFM too little?
it wont even be close to enough ... if u are enclosing the pc box i would say u would need (10) 2" fans at least .. i would open the back and leave the front open .. or plan some space on top to set the box would be even better ..

This is the email that was sent to me about this work at home program. I would like to know if its on the up and up. Thanks alot!
I've received similar emails from other companies and it turned out to be some sort of Spam. Call Ashley's Furniture's Corporate office and ask them....they'll know for sure. Ask for the Human Resources or Hiring Dept.
I just moved into a 3-bdrm place until school starts (September). The place is unfurnished. Other than a fold up plastic desk, office chair, and minimal kitchen supplies I have nothing else. I'm collecting cardboard boxes for clothes (I have hangers for the closet, but boxes for everything else). I currently have $20 in my bank account to cover groceries and furniture until the next payday (check comes on Friday, the bank's hold on it will be released by the Tuesday afterwords)
What's the best way to spend my money? I figure I'll need at least $7-$10 for food, because my fridge is almost empty.
I really need something to sleep on... is there anything I can do to make the floor/sleeping bag situation more comfortable?

Tax breaks for the home office crowd
Hundreds of thousands of Canadians keep an office in their home that can legitimately qualify for some kind of tax break.
You probably know someone in this category — your uncle Irving with the home-based consulting business, your cousin Mary the freelance writer, or your neighbour Fred the telecommuting employee. Each of these people may be able to reduce their tax bill by deducting all or part of the costs of earning income from work they do in their own home.
But beware: the tax policies in this area can be tricky and the tax benefits only go to those who successfully manoeuvre their way through the intricacies of the Canada Revenue Agency. Even after those conditions are met, other rules kick in to limit how much can be deducted in any one year.
Simply having a home office isn't enough to generate some favourable tax treatment. Getting a break from the tax department depends entirely on what you use your home office for, as well as the nature of your work status. Most employees, for instance, can't deduct home office expenses unless they are required to maintain a home office by their employer (more on that later).

You may have any kind of business; it is quite probable that you have an office setup, even it is at home. Regardless of type of business, one thing is common in all the offices, the importance of office furniture. The importance of office furniture remains same whether you are setting a new office or remodeling an old one or expanding your present setup. Let us discuss about the variety of the furniture needed and seen in offices.
The most important piece of furniture in an office is the desk. Desk provides that important work surface which is needed to do any kind of writing work. There is large variety of desks available in the market. You can find office desks of all styles, designs, textures, materials and the sizes. You can make a rich choice according to your requirements.
There are small desks, computer desks, and large executive desks. Corner desks are quite useful in the offices where large number of employees work as this creates separate and tiny cubicle for each employee. Nowadays, you will find most of the desks made from particle or pressed board but you can order for a solid wood desks also if you want quality. Many years ago, large metal desks used to be the usual part of government offices but now these metal desks are there with better version; they have glass tops. Standing desks are fast replacing other forms for offering great ease of work and help maintain good posture.
