I have a 900 sf home and a large entertainment center with a large couch. My living room and diningroom are in the same room. very close to each other. I am having trouble rearranging my furniture. I have tried to sell my entertainment center but cant sell it. what should i do and how can i rearrange my furniture? I want my house to feel cozy and warm when you walk in.
I would like to add that my living/diningroom is only 12x25
I always go for unexpected furniture arrangements. Is it possible to use the entertainment center between the living and dining area as a room divider? You could anchor it to a side wall or to the ceiling with thin cables and toggle bolts. If the back is finished you wouldn't have to cover it up but a nice drape hung from the ceiling could cover up the works and act as a backdrop for a buffet table or side board in the dining area. Pull the couch away from the wall and make it part of a divider between the living area and perhaps the front door or the hallway. If its between the living area and the front door, place a tall sofa table behind it to hold a lamp and hold incoming mail and car keys. Baskets under it can hold books and magazines. 900 sq feet is small compared to the monsters being built today but is still plenty of room for what you now own. My house is only 1000 sq feet and my furniture is large scale and it doesn't feel crowded at all.

I plan on decorating my apt. soon with dark oak mission furniture, along with accent pieces like lamps, shelves, and picture frames in espresso.... but I don't just wanna limit myself to those colors. I'd like to add a little touch of ivory or bone white to my decor but don't know how to work with them. Do these colors go well with dark oak and espresso? And are there any other colors that I should consider using? I'm trying to give my place a warm cozy look, but I need some ideas.
The ivory/dark oak/espresso color combo will look fantastic. Check out these home makeovers from HGTV:

You could also use hunter green, dusty blue, adobe red, dusty rose, or butternut squash - all are very typical of Arts & Crafts style.
Most people call then tents. But they can have hardwood floors, fancy kitchens, chandlers, and cozy furniture. Even a nice bathroom and shower. Hot water heaters, heating and cooling, full electricity and every aminity a conventional home could have.

Would you consider living in one?
Actually, a yurt might be better for hurricane country. You can pack of your whole house, and forego the insurance problems or fixing and rebuilding.
I'm in FL so NOPE it will not make it pass hurricane season :(
I will consider an apartment instead of that.

L This is how my home is today with 14,000 books.
What it says about me is that I don't own a TV.
We have a pertty large room in our house that is being totally unused! so i've been thinking about making it into a home library. i love to read as well as write so this would be a bit like my own slice of heaven. so how should we decorate?
like i said, it's quite large (larger then the bedrooms because it is on the third floor) and has amazing bay windows that i've had a book shelf custom to fit into. the carpet is sand color, and the bookshelf is stained in a deep mahogany color, but other then that, it's empty. i'd like to do the wall opposed the windows in a full bookcase and maybe put a small desk opposite the door with a computer. i'd also like to but some "comfy" furniture in there so we/I can read and some very nice lamps since there is only one small ceiling light. the walls are a cream color...please suggest what color i should paint it and how can i tie the whole room together and make it have a really cozy, calming and comforting feel? maybe a dark color paint? ahhhh, please help? thanks!
Aside from the book-shelves, the only furniture you need in a library is a desk and some comfortable reading-seats.
Choose the desk (or work-table, if you prefer) according to whether your library is also a home office, or you want to do personal writing at it (letters, your own novels), or it's more of a reading table, where several books can be opened and laid out simultaneously. Place the desk/table where sitting at it gives you the nicest view -- you then have an incentive to avoid eye-strain by looking up and changing your focal distance every so often. :-D
Seating for reading is usually comfy upholstered stuff. One thing I found in my library was that heat-control is important, especially in cold seasons. When we read, we're sitting still a lot! So I got snuggle blankets (and made a quilt) in the colors of the room, and included durable decorative pillows, too. (Sometimes I or my kids like to read lying on the floor.) My favorite pillows are a set a friend made for me -- all sizes, made in washable brown velveteens and satins, made to look like fancy candy-box chocolates!
You've already figured on lighting needs. I found that the single-bulb ceiling fixture that our room had (built in) was totally useless -- we couldn't even read the titles of half the books at night by it. We ended up with five small-ish lamps, all with very long cords, and each easy to pick up and hold near the bookshelves with one hand. A couple of small pedestals (like empty plant stands) are handy, too, placed ready in the darker corners.
The color scheme for my library was ivory-white as a base (we have a no-food rule in this room -- if the kids want to eat/drink while reading, they have to take it to their bedrooms), with maroon / navy blue / dark hunter green as the lively colors. As snow season looms, darker accessories (toss-blankets, pillows, lampshades, little artworks) are put in; as the weather warms up and days get longer, I put lighter-toned accessories and fabrics in.
I hope this helps! I've had this scheme for many years, and it still works for me -- but I'm not afraid to update the details, either. :-D
And have fun!

DECORATING TIPS: For every season...
Deyette said creating a warm, cozy and inviting atmosphere indoors changes your mood.
"It's the same thing with the holidays. I'm all about getting a wreath on the door or getting a tree. Even if it's still 80 degrees in the daytime, a little tree or wreath on the door changes our mood. It makes things more festive," she said.
"The number one thing to change from spring or summer to fall is color," said Phil Tracey, style expert for HomeGoods.
While pumpkin and dark green are obvious colors, Tracey said he also likes to incorporate unique and vibrant colors. This year chartreuse and fuchsia are his colors of choice.
"These two colors easily coordinate with other colors in the home," he said suggesting they be used on pillows, decorative accessories and accent chairs.
"Accent chairs are big this season. We're not going out and buying a new settee or a sofa set. We're just getting one chair or a chair and an ottoman," he said citing the economy as a factor in people's decorating decisions.
