Building new home. Have exposed exterior basement walls. Are there "siding" options to hide the concrete?

Building new home. Have a poured concrete basement. Some of the exterior walls of basement are exposed. Are there options for covering these areas? The rest of the house has siding. I thought that there were "siding" options for this problem. Siding type material that resembles rock. You just measure and cut sheets of material to apply to exterior walls. But I can not find any web sites to support this "theroy".

Shoot it with stucco or sprayed on concrete/gunnite.

Where can I find checklist of items I'll have to choose when building a new home (siding, countertops, etc.) ?
2009-10-10 -IMG_9617

I'm looking for a detailed (free) checklist of items I'll need to choose when building a new home. Something that would list all the things I'll need to make personal choices on; appliances, countertops, siding, roofing, flooring, cabinets, fixtures, windows, paving driveway, etc.

Even better if I can find a (free) list of the whole step-by-step process of home building. Something that lists things I might not think of like checking with the city about sewer or power hookups in a home in the country.

Thanks very much for any help you might be able to provide. It will be much appreciated.

Each builder will have a different selection process and the forms that go along. For a comprehensive guide to the home building process from a consumers point of view, try this website:

It belongs to the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) and will offer you a world of information.

Good luck with your new home project.

Are there reputable homebuilders out there who assist you in building a new home?
2009-10-10 -IMG_9619

I am looking for a homebuilder who will assist me in building a new home. I thought that maybe it would be less expensive that way. But I don't know if any homebuilders are willing to do that, because they may not be able to guarantee the quality of the work. Does anyone know any REPUTABLE homebuilders who will assist me in building a home?

There should be several in your area - look for them by reputations from friends, family, and co-workers. (Just a couple of hints: 1)Never pay the full price "up front" - even for the most reputable of home builders. Always arrange a staggered pay-scale starting with 15 - 20% at the signing of the contract. 2)Include a penalty clause in the contract that gives you part of the purchase price of your house back if the builder doesn't finish the house on time as specified. That way, if he is TOO busy to concentrate on your house, you will be able to find a contractor who isn't. 3)Arrange for the final payment 60-90 days after you move in - that way, all the little "details" will be taken care of by the person that built the house, and you won't have to pay someone else to finish them or do them yourself.)

when building new home what are the upgrade we must have?
New York

when buiding new home , what are the upgrades we must have added from the buider, what upgrades can wait for some other time in future to be added by us on our own ?

Make sure you upgrade your flooring and appliances. If you ever have to sell in the future, new home buyers look at these first and it is hard to upgrade that in the future.

Wait for the little things like fixtures and lights because you can always change the style later on.

Also a tip, when you choose your kitchen cabnets, make sure they match with your flooring because in the future, they can look outdated and can be costly to change later on.

What is the average cost of building a new home (approx 3000 square feet)in Holmdel, NJ?
What's Left

We are thinking of buying a small ranch and tearing it down to biuld a new home or renovating it and adding on. What is the cost per square foot to build a home.

  • PAWS Kicks Off New Home Fundraising Campaign

    By Joe Dominguez

PUEBLO - Despite our economy, a Pueblo non-profit hopes to raise enough money for a new $7.5 million home in the next six months.

The Pueblo Animal Welfare and Protection Society or PAWS would like to build a campus on about 7 acres that would feature a a new dog park (with access to trails) and a doggie day care that could help PAWS become self-sufficient. Most important, however, is to get enough money to build the new LEED Certified geo thermal animal shelter.

Going geo thermal will help paws keep utilities costs down in the long run. Leaders say a lot of their cash flow gets swept out the door in utilities cots. They believe by investing, in geo thermal technology in which the building is heated and cooled by the temperature of the earth, it will help keep the no-kill animal shelter in business for years to come.

"People, believe it or not, always come through even though the economy is not all that good," said Mari Ahmadi, a PAWS board member.

All You Need To Know About Sustainable Building Material | Go ...

The subject of sustainable building is a hard one. There is often the concept that the modern home must be made of brick or have aluminum siding, and that the home must come with a white, picket fence. However, as more and more people grow concerned about the lasting value of the planet, sustainable building has become quite popular.

What makes a sustainable building? First and foremost, the building does not use materials that are required for endangered species. It does not consume a great deal of energy. It is built in such a way where it is naturally cool in the summer and warm in the winter, so that heating and cooling costs are significantly lowered. It is built with sustainable building materials . A sustainable building project does not destroy the land that it is built upon, but is more in harmony with it.

This is very difficult to achieve. Most people will not be able to own a sustainable building anytime soon. However, there are steps that you can take to make your home a more sustainable building. The first step is to replace your appliances and insulate your home. Insulation helps keep your home warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. Energy-star appliances consume a great deal less energy. This has two benefits. First, it lowers the amount of power that is required from the power grid. This means that the power grids have to support less energy. A power grid that needs to create less energy does less damage to the environment. Second, the less energy demands you make, the cheaper your monthly bills are. With economies that are fluctuating, this can make a huge difference month to month. In addition to this, a sustainable building will be biodegradable. No, this does not mean that your new home will crumble around your ears. What it does mean is that in two or three hundred years, should the property no longer be lived in and maintained, the sustainable building will degrade and be returned back to the environment, removing the footprint it once had. This is very important for those who wish to eliminate the amount of damage that they do to the environment.
