22nd Century Media takes home 24 awards from IPDA

The Homer Horizon was the recipient of four awards at the Illinois Press Association's 2009 Excellence in News and Editorial Contest held in Peoria Friday, Oct. 9.

"Receiving four awards, which is the most The Horizon has ever received, was fulfilling to say the least," said Ryan Terrell, editor of The Horizon. "It was a great thing to see all the hard work this newspaper's staff has put in this year come to fruition."

The Horizon received first place in the category for best overall Lifestyle Section, third place for Headline Writing by Terrell and former assistant editor Michael Gilbert, and honorable mention for a Sports News story by Terrell and an Informational Graphic created by Creative Director Shannon Mashek.

The Horizon is one of six newspapers with 22nd Century Media, a hyper-local media company based in Orland Park. The company has five other publications in Orland Park, Tinley Park, Mokena, Frankfort and New Lenox. The company won 24 awards
