Hey! We are looking for a dog, which will make a perfect addition to our family. I'll make a bulleted list of things we are looking for -->
-small in size (up to 15-20 lbs, a lap dog)
-Does not shed (we are willing to get grooming, but both my dad and brother have allergies to fur)
-can stay home for approx. 8-9 hours either in a room or a crate
-relatively easy to train (we will most likely get an adult who should already be trained, i think)
-doesn't need too much exercise, but should be able to go on walks
-friendly with children (6 yr old) and occasional elderly people (60ish)
-able to tolerate both extreme cold and moderate heat (we live in Pennsylvania now, but will move to New Hampshire next year)
yup. we need a breed that doesn't shed, is small, and can stay home for some time
THANK YOU!!
There are multiple breeds that would be good for you. A Miniature Poodle sounds like a great fit. They shed very little (all dogs shed) and are hypoallergenic. They are 11-15 inches tall and between 15-17 lbs. and come in a variety of colors. They are incredibly smart little dogs, and even for their size, athletic. They're very sensitive and in tune with their people. They LOVE to be with their family and need a lot of attention. If you leave it in it's crate for a good portion of the day, you'll need to have it out and with the family the rest of the day. They are easy to train and super intelligent. If they get proper exercise (don't require a ton, but like walks) they'll be mellow in the house. They're good with kids and if the 6 year old is respectful, it should be fine. They do require a bit of grooming however. If you want some coat on them and want them to look cute they need to be brushed and combed out at the very least once a week. And they need to be professionally groomed every 4-6 weeks. They're awesome dogs though. I have a Standard. Another good breed would be a Bichon Frise. They are also low shedding and hypoallergenic. They only come in white. They are between 9-12 inches tall and 7-12 lbs. They are happy, fun, energetic little dogs who are great with kids. They are also very smart and like to learn tricks. Again, like the Poodle, require grooming. They require the same as a Poodle. And lastly another breed that I think would be great would be the Chinese Crested. This breed comes in a hairless variety and a hair variety, called the Powderpuff. They are actually very cute. They are 12 inches and about 10 lbs. They are small dogs with a great, happy, friendly personality and would love to go for walks. They'd be great with kids. They are affectionate, cuddly, and smart. They also require the heavy grooming (Powderpuff variety). Cute pics: http://www.fordogtrainers.com/ProductIma ges/dog-breeds-muzzles/Chinese-Crested-m uzzle-Chinese-Crested.jpg

If none of these appeal to you, here are some other low shedding, small breeds:
Maltese
Shih Tzu
Tibetan Terrier
Havanese
Coton de Tulear
Bolognese
Lhasa Apso
Also, please get your dog from a shelter, rescue, or a responsible breeder. Visit petfinder.com for shelter dogs or akc.org to find the breed club of the breed you decide on. From there you can find good breeders.
Good luck in your breed search!

Before you answer consider the following:
McCain was far deeper in bed with Charles Keating than Obama was with Tony Resko. Keating gave far more to McCain's campaign than Resko gave to Obama's. In fact, Keating was one of McCains' top fundraisers. Keating paid for many McCain vacations and flights to his resort homes, which McCain never disclosed (by law he must as a congressman) until years later during the Keating 5 fiasco. Cindy McCain and her dad invested $400,000 in a Keating strip mall. But here's the big difference, Obama dropped Resko like a wet cigar when Resko's started stinking. McCain on the otherhand, stepped in and tried to prevent a Senate hearing into Keating's fowl deeds. Keatings stench was all over McCain during those hearings. How McCain stayed out of jail is amazing.
OK, I know I know the Keating stuff was 20 years ago. Fair enough, but has McCain changed? Well now, McCain has a whole army of Keatings working for him, more lobbyists than any other presidential candidate in history. He On March 7, 2007, McCain named ex-Texas Representative Tom Loeffler, who has one of the most lucrative and influential practices in the nation's capital, as his campaign co-chair. In the same month, McCain named former Washington Sen. Slade Gorton, now a heavyweight lobbyist, as his honorary chairman for Washington state. Loeffler's client list includes PhRMA, the drug industry association; Southwest Airlines; Toyota; and Martin Marietta. Gorton represents, among others, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., Weyerhaeuser and Fidelity National Financial. In addition, David Crane, now the campaign's senior policy advisor, was a senior executive at The Washington Group, a firm with 2006 billings of $10.4 million and 52 clients, including Delta Airlines, the Association of American Railroads, and the governments of Panama and Bangladesh. And Charlie Black, who is now a campaign spokesman appearing on McCain's behalf on radio, television, and as a "spin-doctor" after debates, is chairman of BKSH & Associates, with lobbying billings of $7.6 million in 2006, representing J.P. Morgan, Occidental and General Motors.
All told, there are 11 current or former lobbyists working for or advising McCain, at least double the number in any other campaign. Among the current and former lobbyists working for McCain are: Campaign CEO Rick Davis, a partner at Davis Manafort, where his clients have included SBC Communications and Verizon; and former Davis Manafort associate, National eCampaign Director Christian Ferry. At the end of 2006, Mike Dennehy, who founded The Dennehy Group, a New Hampshire lobbying firm, was appointed McCain's national political director. He gave up that post in May to become a senior campaign advisor.
McCain's new buddies make Keating look like an amateur. They are far more intelligent than Keating ever was. In otherwords, they are good at hiding the stench of their crookedness.
obama is honest, intelligent and cares about the poor, will give college students money to go to college, will give everyone free health care and those in need tax breaks and make the rich pay their way instead of raping the working class. obama will take from the rich and give to the poor like robin hood. and thats a good thing.
Awards abound as N.H. Film Fest hits Portsmouth | SeacoastOnline.com
Ernest Thompson, Oscar-winning writer of the New Hampshire-shot "On Golden Pond," was given the Van McLeod Award — named in honor of the commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Cultural Resources and awarded to someone who makes a significant contribution to the film or television industry.
Thompson said, since "On Golden Pond" in 1980, zero major studio films have been shot in their entirety in New Hampshire. "And that's a sad statistic. It's time to change that," Thompson said. "If the government's not going to, filmmakers have to band together and step up a notch."
He asked area filmmakers and film aficionados to petition the government to offer more tax incentives like Massachusetts, so the Granite State can create a filmmaking structure that would establish working crews in the area for major productions.
"When a major movie is made here, it puts New Hampshire back on the map," he said.
