Keeping my existing number on a new home phone service?

I want to get a home phone and transfer my existing cell number to my home phone. Are there any phone services that can do this?
I don't have a high speed internet connection at home so Vonage and similar VoIP services won't work for me.

The issue here is whether the cell number you currently hold is in the same geographic area that the landline serves.

For instance, if you have a phone number in the 312 area code (central Chicago) and you live somewhere in the Chicagoland area, you could reasonably ask AT&T to port that local cell number to your landline.

However, if you have that 312 number and you are requesting service in Boston, Verizon will probably not honor the request since they and ATT don't want to go through the trouble of figuring out how to associate your 312 number to your Boston location.

Porting from cell to landline is rare. Landline to either cell or VoIP is more common. Porting between cell carriers is possible. Porting between VoIP is dicey, though.

How long does it typically take for a new home phone service to actually take affect when you change plans?

I set it up yesterday and I got a long distance plan and so I don't want to start using it when I don't actually have it yet... lol. Could be costly. Anyone have any idea how long it typically takes? It's not under my name so if I call they won't give me any information. Help!!!

land line installations normally occur within 5 business days...

adding or removing features can be implemented in most cases the same day, from several minutes, to several hours.. but on occasion may take 24 hours to take effect...

dial 00 and see what the long distance carrier is... if your long distance carrier is provided to you from dialing 00 then you are safe to make LD calls with your new provider or plan...

What Home Phone Service Do You Have?

I want to get a new home residential phone service for my room but when I visit sites like ConnectMyPhone (a site to tell you the cheapest phone carriers in your area) They are all like $80.00. I know that there is something cheaper. That is why I would like to know what your company is.

Thanks.

I got Packet8!!

I pay yearly so its only 16 dollars a month...

I also use MagicJack....its 19.99 per year.....since I pay for high-speed Internet anyway....might as well take advantage of it!!

what is the cheapest home phone service available in new york?

I want to pay about 10-15 dollars
i want to pay about 10-15 dollars a month

its funny that you ask, because i was just wondering the same thing. if you have a cell phone (t-moble) they have a 10 a month home phone plan but you have to have a cellphone plan with them and broadband. which sucks. as far as paying 15 dollars a month, good luck. i haven;t found one yet. but if you do keep me posted.

can anyone suggest the best home phone service provider for the new england area?

i just bought a house and i would like to get a land line/home phone. i use my cell phone quite a bit but i want something at home so that i don't have to rack up my cell minutes. can anyone suggest something that offers a good plan but is pretty in expensive? thanks!

I have used Vonage for a while and it does well plus they don't rape you as far as fees. My total bill is like 27.50 after taxes.

  • Switching to Cable Phone Service

So we moved recently .  Among the many things we had to switch to our new home was our cable TV connection which also includes our internet connection.  Since the cable provider is the same where we moved it would only be a matter of letting the cable company know about the new location so they can send a technician to set everything up. When my wife called up the cable company the salesperson offered a cable/internet phone line as part of a package with cable service and the internet which would save us money on our phone bill .  Sounded good and we would also get a few months free of premium channels.  We were also told that we would get to keep our old phone number which is what really sold it for us.  We didn’t want to have to change our number if we could avoid it.

The technician comes on the day appointed.  He did a great job putting in the new cable line and setting everything up, especially since we had boxes all over the place.  As he’s testing the phone line he tells me what the new phone number will be….WHAT?!?  We’re not supposed to get a new number.  Tech guy says there’s nothing he can do and that I would need to call the cable company.  Ughh.
